The most popular tropical water lily of all is Albert Greenberg named after the father of modern aquiculture. It stays open all day and blooms prolifically with orange-pink and pale yellow blooms above large variegated pads.

They multiply quickly and bloom best if you divide them down to a single crown per container at least every other year. You will have plenty of bulbs to share after one year. In years with warm winters I have had them bloom every day of the year. They need 4 hours of direct sun and a pond or space in a pond 4 feet in diameter and 18 inches deep.

In Florida we are so fortunate to be able to grow Tropical Water Lilies. Hardy Water Lilies are the most common types sold throughout the U.S. but they do not perform as well in Florida as the tropical types. Some tropical water lilies like this all time favorite 'Red Flare' are night bloomers which means they open in the twilight hours for your evening garden stroll and then close by 11 AM unless it is cloudy. Then they stay open all day. The foliage is dark burgundy.
